It’s Open Phones Wednesday!

It’s “open lines” again, boys and girls. (If you don’t understand that phrase, please read this post.)

I’m going out of town on Friday. So this edition of “open phones” will begin Wednesday and end Friday morning.

Let’s see if we can get the Fanortner twinkling steadily over the next 48 hours, shall we?

Over the next two days, we will discuss one question. For the two or three people who are prone to do this, please, please, pretty please … don’t answer the question and then write screens of postcript on non-related issues.

If you don’t like the question, feel free to write a letter of complaint to the blog owner. That would be my mother, Mrs. Viola — spelled M-R-S  V-I-O-L-A. Mrs. Viola.

Important background to the question:

A dear friend of mine is fighting bone marrow cancer. She is being treated at one of the best cancer hospitals in the country. Shands in Gainesville, FL. She and her husband are seasoned Christians. Her friends and family are asking God to restore her to health – whether through supernatural or natural means. Whichever He chooses to use, we’ll be thankful.

One of the things that builds faith is to hear stories of people who were healed by God – either by supernatural or natural means (that would include medical treatments).

Therefore, the question for today is to share with us one or two experiences of either yourself, or a person that you personally know, who had a serious illness and was healed – either by supernatural or natural means. And you credit the healing to God.

Note: Watching a healing on devilvision (sorry, Freudian slip) television – even “God TV” – doesn’t count . . . unless you personally know the individual who was healed.

We all hear plenty of stories of Christians who prayed and weren’t healed. Today’s blog – I hope – will be full of stories and testimonies of people who were restored to health, even against all odds.

Oh, and please refrain from giving your own personal theology of Divine healing/faith healing in your answer. That’s not what today’s question is about. As your all-wise blog moderator (yea, right), I will make sure that this discussion doesn’t devolve into a doctrinal/theological/philosophical shooting match over whether healing is in the atonement and other arcane questions. Remember: I hold the edit button in my hands ;-)

We’re only interested in testimonies and stories of people – either yourself, a friend, or a family member – who were profoundly sick and then restored to health. And you give the Lord credit for it.

Alrighty then . . . the lines are open! Comments are ON until Friday morning (background applause with frequent whistling).

  1. January 2007 my daughter Calista was delivered from a spirit of autism. She had had so much trouble from the time she was 18 months- 4 years old with everything… eating, sleeping… she would scream every time we entered a store, or when we turned the radio on in the car, or if someone got in her space. She wouldn’t snuggle with us anymore, didn’t make eye contact… In fact she was more like a wild animal than a little girl. A preacher from South Africa came to our church at the time and we took her to him for prayer. He looked in her eyes (she made eye contact) and said “spirit of autism go” and it was like the fog cleared. She smiled and as we left said that man was nice! She talked to us the whole way home, chattering pleasantly, and when we got home proceeded to eat a HUGE meal, like it was the first meal she’d had in a long time, slept all through the night… She went to 4K last year and her teachers looked at me like I was an idiot when I told them of her prior disabilities. At the end of the year they said she was the brightest in her class! Praise the Lord!

  2. Linda D- AIDS miraculously healed over time…her blood tests continued to drop with virus until it was gone. More than 5 years hiv free.
Lou E- Esophageal cancer, prayer and medical treatment 5+ years cancer free
Jim W- Miraculously healed colon cancer
Steve W- Non Hodgkins lymphoma stage 3: 2 of 4 tumors gone. In process of healing/prayer and medical treatment.
I am part of healing rooms ministries and have seen many healed with previous and post doctor reports. The above testimonies are people I know personally

  3. My uncle (who is a Baptist preacher for over 40 years) was healed of polio during the early 1940’s. As most older folks know polio was an almost uncurable disease before the vaccine became available.
My dad’s family live in rural appalachia and when the doctor diagnosed my uncle with this disease my grandmother did what was biblical. She called for the elders of the local church (Church of God) to come and anoint him with oil and pray for him. He was lying in bed unable to move his legs that afternoon and the next morning he awoke and was perfectly healthy. Even to this day my uncle tells this story to anyone who will listen and gives God the glory.
The most interesting part of the story to me is that my grandfather (who was not a Christian at the time) left the house so his sin whould not prevent the healing.
God does heal and it can be at home.

  4. Myself. If you read “My Life Story” on my personal blog, you’ll get the details. But basically from the age of 11-24, I suffered from serious depression. But it wasn’t until I was 18 that I realized that I had, indeed, a spirit of depression was in my life. I went through about 6 years of treatment, including medication and therapy. I also was suicidal in a specific type of way. From the age of 18-28, God gradually and progressively began the healing process in my life. It was about 2 years ago that I experienced a profound turning point of deliverance. To explain what happened would take much more space than this comment. Additionally, with respect to this being Frank’s blog, it’s just not the place. I completely 100% credit our amazing, HUGE, and unimaginably loving Father for my healing and restoration. I do have my “down” days, but we, as humans, all do! I know for a fact, that I do not experience the spirit of bondage of darkness that I did. I am free. I am loved. I know whose daughter I am…our blessed Almighty, ever-loving Heavenly Father, Savior Lord Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit. I am in Him, and He is in me.

  5. Here’s one story of healing directly by God, and the other through natural means…

A friend of mine had complete placenta previa. The doctors were going to have to do a c-section but even then it was very risky because of the possibility of major hemorrhaging. The home fellowship that they were a part of came together and prayed for her and her placenta moved and her little girl was born naturally without any complications.

Another friend of mine has a good friend who was diagnosed with end-stage ovarian cancer and a very short time to live. She sought counsel from a naturopath who told her to go on a complete juice diet by juicing raw, organic sprouts, fruits, and vegetable for a whole year. She also took certain supplements. She is still alive (this was several years ago) and the cancer is completely gone.

  6. My arthritis caused me so much pain that just standing up brought tears to my eyes. I was a constant grump. It’s hard to wear a funny face when pain is a constant companion.

Then, a married couple visited us one weekend. Before they left, the wife placed her hand on my shoulder and said, “Lord, You know what Larry needs. Just bless him.” She had no clue about my arthritis. Only my wife knew about my suffering.

Instantly, the arthritis disappeared. This happened two years ago. Not a problem with arthritis since that day.

  7. I wanted to let you know exactly what kind of cancer I had and how I was helped with it. If I would have recognized the seriousness of my situation, I probably would have had a much worse time than I did. I guess the Lord spared me the understanding at the time. What I had was stage 4 metastatic breast cancer which had spread to my liver. My liver was covered with lesions (as they call them). The entire left lobe was covered with multiple lesions on the right lobe. Thankfully, my liver was still functioning normally. (I don’t know how that was) Anyway, I was diagnosed at the end of January. At one point in the beginning of February, I went to the hospital emergency room with severe pain in my abdomen. I thought I was having an appendix attack. (What next?) The emergency room doctor told me that it was not what I thought, but just the cancer. I think now that it may have been gas :>) That doctor told me if it was her, she would not let them touch me here in the states but rather to go to the Oasis of Hope hospital in Mexico. My husband, Milt, began to do research on the internet about different alternative approaches to healing cancer. He found the site for Oasis of Hope and that is how we decided to go there.

Our original idea was to only use alternative medicine. We didn’t want to go with the chemo because of all the mess it caused with our sister-in-law, Joannie. We knew that chemo was mustard gas and it killed all the cells, not just the cancer cells. We had a bunch of reasons not to have chemo. By the time I went to Mexico, in March, the tumors had doubled in size! Not a good sign. They told me how fast the cancer was growing and recommended that I have chemo. I was devastated! I had hoped that I was going to be cured miraculously, instantly! That was not the case. I feel sure now that God allowed me to go through the chemo for a good reason. (Maybe so I could talk to you about it?)

Before they gave me any treatment with chemo, however, they helped me prepare my body to take the chemo by building up my immune system. For the first week I was there, they gave me infusions of Vitamin C. Also I had about 15 supplements to take 3 times a day. They also do this thing where they draw some blood and then run it though an ozone machine and then put it back while running it through ultraviolet light. This is a very effective cancer killer. They also treated me with laetrile which is from apricot kernels. (This treatment is illegal in the US because they can’t patent what God has made.) Laetrile is also a very effective cancer killer. Also, the food there is all organic, whole foods, so you aren’t getting a bunch of chemicals added to your already sick little body. The people there are absolutely the best! We felt like family rather than patients. They have a staff of 15 doctors there who all meet together and discuss your case a couple of times a week. So you aren’t just stuck with one man’s opinion, you have a group of doctors who pray for you and help you in any way they can. They treat the whole person. You are not just a disease to them. They really go out of their way for each patient.

So even though I had to go the chemo route, I feel that the alternative medicines they prescribed for me helped me tremendously. I had very little side effects to the chemo. I did get a little nauseous, but never vomited. No headaches or any other of the bad stuff you hear about. Of course I lost my hair, but it’s coming back pretty good now. Unfortunately, I have had to start shaving my legs again – I haven’t shaved since March :>)

Milt and I highly recommend that you check into the Oasis of Hope. Most people go there as a last resort – I went there first. At this time, my tumor markers are normal. My last CT Scan was very good and my blood tests are normal.

It may seem by reading this that I lost faith in God or His healing power. Actually, the opposite is true. I know for sure that I wouldn’t be sitting here writing to you if God had not healed my body. He not only has done a great work in my body, but also in the healing of my soul. I have had more people praying for me than I even know. I am sure that it is only by those prayers in faith and my strong conviction that He would heal me that has kept me through this time. Please feel free to contact me at any time by email, if I can help.

  8. I don’t know if this counts as a serious illness but I used to be infertile due to Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. My doctor put me on birth control pills so that I would have a regular cycle. She said that if my husband and I ever wanted to have children I would have to have fertility treatments. I stayed on the birth control pills for seven years. I started to feel like the pills were affecting my personality and mood in ways that I didn’t like. So, I began to pray that God would heal me of PCOS. Many people prayed for me. One person even prophesied that I would have a family some day (she had no idea that I was infertile). About a year and a half ago, I decided to stop taking the birth control pills for good. At the same time, I kept hearing about and finding articles about over-the-counter progesterone as treatment for infertility. I felt like God was telling me that this was what I needed. So, I bought a $12 jar of progesterone at Wal-mart and began to use it (ALOT cheaper than fertility treatments). I had regular cycles for the first time in almost ten years and within five months I was pregnant. I carried the baby full term and now have a healthy, beautiful, six-week old son. His name is Nehemiah James.

  9. I had a friend who was suffering from severe panic attacks. The doctors didn’t know what was causing it. It’s a common disorder these days. Some of us laid hands on him and prayed for him in the name of Jesus. The panic attacks were gone right after that and they didn’t return. He was completely healed.

  10. Thanks for open phones again. Years ago one of the members of our church had a serious problem with diabetes. Something had to happen or we would lose him. I can’t remember what the issue was exactly but it was concerning the medical doctors. The men of the church laid hands on him and prayed. Not long after the doctors came up with something to treat him. Again, I can’t remember what it was, but it was something out of the ordinary. He was able to manage his diabetes without any problems. God answered our prayer.

  11. I’ve shared this in a post on my own blog not too long ago, but I’ll share it here, too. I’ll try to keep it short since this is my first chance to comment on your blog (I missed the first open line…)

About 7 years ago, I was at work when I suddenly became very nauseous and dizzy and had a severe migraine headache. I attempted to make my way down the hall to the bathroom, but had trouble even walking down the hallway because I kept “falling” into the wall. I could not see straight, and could not keep my balance.

Somehow I managed to make it to a co-worker’s office across the hallway from the bathroom and asked him to get help. As I was asking him to help me, I fell to the floor (fortunately, he caught me and helped ease me down) and lay there shivering and shaking.

They rushed me to the hospital and tried to figure out what was wrong, but could not identify anything. They released me later that day, and I was taken to my home by a friend. For the next two months, I could barely function. The constant severe migraine headache refused to go away, and I could only be up for about 15 minutes at a time before having to lay down again, shaking and weak.

Several visits to the doctor, a brain MRI, etc. still found nothing. They put me on painkillers, but the pain was still there. I feared that I would become addicted to the pills.

Finally, after about two months of looking at the scripture and praying for wisdom (and feeling that what I had been taught all my life about how healing was not for today was not accurate), I got up, threw the painkillers in the trash can, got dressed and drove to work. As I stepped out of the house, I felt the symptoms subside, and I have not had a single symptom like that since!

I completely give my Father the credit for healing me. There is no other explanation, and the doctors never did find anything that they could identify as causing the debilitating pain.

I tried to keep it short here…sorry! :) Thanks for opening up the lines, Frank.

  12. I have a good friend who came down with lymphoma. It was so advanced that the doctors said she wasn’t going to live. It was untreatable. Prayers were made for her by many people. She started to recover quickly until she was totally healed. This has been many years ago and she’s in perfect health today and the lymphoma has never returned.

  13. Some close friends of mine — Years ago the wife had all the symptoms of a heart attack and the husband called their ‘pastor’ to come pray. All the symptoms left and I don’t believe she has had heart trouble since.
At nine I was healed of asthma thru a ‘word of knowledge’ from the platform of a meeting. Never had an attack since.
My dear mother who is with the Lord now used to pray for infertile women and rejoice to see them have children — no fertility treatments needed!

  14. I was in a motorcycle accident about 2 years ago. I was going about 60-65 (in a 60) and a driver ran a stop sign. I saw him run it and remember trying to avoid him. But then everything went black. I remember rolling on the ground a little, and then remember waking up in the middle of the road. Today I cannot recall anything that happened during the “black” moments. Apart from the minor scrapes and the 15K in hospital bills that I am still paying (it was a hit-and-run) I was not harmed. I believe God delivered me from this. Not exactly a “healing” per-se but I believe it counts for something :) .

Also, if anyone is reading this, please pray for my father-in-law. He has been suffering from very severe neuropathy. We continue to pray for his well being and maybe it’s just not God’s will to heal him. But it is debilitating to him, he has not been able to work for two years and is only 55/56.

This might sound stupid too, but could y’all pray for my dog Woody. We’ve discovered he has a neurological problem that prevents him from using his back legs properly. Our pets mean a lot to us, they are part of our family and it would mean a lot to us if y’all would pray for him also.

    Thank you and God Speed,
    Lew
